Before you download.

The essentials for this desktop beta.

Which Macs can run the beta?

The Mac version supports Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or newer) with macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Choose Apple menu → About This Mac to check your chip. We recommend 16 GB RAM. Setup needs about 25 GB free; larger projects and optional models need more.

How much RAM and storage do I need?

We recommend 16 GB RAM. Basic projects may work with 8 GB, but testing on an 8 GB Mac is still pending for this beta. Larger projects and music models may need more memory. Allow about 25 GB free storage for setup, plus space for projects and optional models.

Does my media leave my computer?

Ordinary desktop processing keeps recordings, documents, transcripts and voice references on your device. Internet requests are needed for installer and model downloads and app updates. Optional technical problem reports exclude your media and project content; automatic reporting is off unless you enable it. You can review a report before sending it manually.

Is the beta free?

Yes. This desktop beta is free and does not require a subscription. Future versions may require a paid licence.

How do I get updates?

Supported Mac builds check for updates on launch and every four hours while online, unless automatic checks are disabled. Look for the Update button or choose Check for Updates from the VERBALATE app menu. Install and Relaunch replaces the app while keeping your projects and models. You can also download the latest version here.

What should I know about a beta?

Keep backups of important projects and review translations, generated speech, speaker assignments and exports before publishing. Use only media and voices you have permission to use. Music models can have non-commercial restrictions; check their terms before use.
